Los Angeles, CAP004 → Apple Peeler
For my final project in my Solidworks class, I was tasked with reverse engineering a household mechanical object. I chose an apple peeler for its mix of components and interesting mechanical movements.
The project involved accurately modeling every part, creating a functional assembly, generating engineering drawings, and animating its movements to fully understand its mechanics.
A drawing of the exploded view includes a comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM) and numbered balloons for easy part identification.
The motion study demonstrates the operation of the apple peeler in detail. The base incorporates a cam mechanism to raise and lower the suction cup for securely attaching the peeler to a countertop. The threaded mechanism advances the apple through the peeling and coring blades.
The images below showcase key subassemblies. Each view displays the individual components and their arrangement, revealing the design and how the parts work together to form a functional mechanism.
